Celebrate Iroquois culture at The Vestal Museum Haudenosaunee Festival.
September 16th from 10am to 4pm. Learn about the people of the longhouse while Alfred Jacques speaks on traditional lacrosse and lacrosse stick making at 1pm, Anthony Gonyea speaks on wampum belt making at 2pm, and Wendy Gonyea tells some Haudenosaunee stories at 3pm. There will also be Haudenosaunee food and craft vendors as well as entertainment.
View a comprehensive exhibit, “Bumping Hips: A History of Lacrosse,” on lacrosse, past and present, a local, Native American, and national sport from September 2nd through October 28th. Writing by Robert Carpenter, a Vestal Native and founder of Inside Lacrosse will be displayed. Come view a traditional Native American lacrosse stick crafted by Onondaga Nation member Alfred Jacques as well as other Native American sticks, Binghamton University, and Vestal High School lacrosse equipment and memorabilia. Learn how to shoot a goal with help from Binghamton University lacrosse players. Refreshments provided.
