Taze Yanick

A Coffee House Series Event

Come listen to local jazz musician Taze Yanick in the intimate Vestal Museum while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea and other refeshments! Come early to find a good seat and stay late! The event is free, but a donation of $10.00 is suggested plus tipping the musician is encouraged.

Born in Seattle in 1969, Taze Yanick began playing guitar at the age of eleven. After early success as a teenager in the ‘80s heavy metal scene, his attention was lured away by jazz. Taze recalls, “I picked up a 1963 Coltrane Live at Birdland in a used record shop, and I was hooked.”

After attending Evergreen State College and Kent State, Taze made his way to Binghamton University’s Graduate School in Philosophy. He received a Master of Arts degree and taught as an adjunct professor for a few semesters while becoming involved in several of the local musical communities.

Since the early ‘90s, Taze has become an integral part of the Greater Binghamton music scene, from composing and performing original music with his namesake, Taze Yanick Quartet, to founding the Latin-Jazz group, Sonando. He has played with local bands, Whiskey Bones, Balkan Connection, Dr. EF and the Rudimentary of Sound, Driftwood and East Coast Bigfoot. He currently performs with The Lutheran Skirts, Salsa Libre, Adam Ate the Apple, and Sabor Latino.

Taze can be heard regularly at Binghamton’s Lost Dog Café and Johnson City’s Goodwill Theatre Jazz Jams.
