About the event

Join the Vestal Museum for our latest exhibition opening, Heirloom Performance, featuring work created by local artist Mia Hause.

Exhibition opening will be Saturday, May 7 from 5PM-7PM. Heirloom Performance | Mia Hause will be on view until the end of June 2022.

Mia Hause is an Ithaca-based visual artist who works primarily in oil painting. Her work explores the relationship between historical depictions of class and femininity and contemporary lived experiences. She is a BFA candidate in Fine Arts at Cornell University, and has participated in a number of exhibitions including Until the Bliss of All This Hurts at Cornell University’s Experimental Gallery, SPRING/BREAK Art Show’s Hearsay:Heresy, and Welcome at Tomato Mouse in Brooklyn, New York.

Heirloom Performance exists as an anthropological study of archives of femininity. These paintings live in an oxymoronic state between strides for luxury and an artificial plastic sensibility, and between the abject realities of womanhood and a self-preservational embrace towards the romantically trite image of femininity. Exploring iconography as containers for memory and sense of self, strategic restraint gives power to these idols to call upon us. Cherubim will keep one eye open for you, so long as you let the light seep in.

This event is free with a suggested donation to the Vestal Museum.

The Vestal Museum is located at 328 Vestal Pkwy E, Vestal, NY 13850 next to the Vestal Public Library.
